Murray has relished the opportunity to be part of a team in which is normally all about individual endeavour. He said the support of the crowd had given him the motivation to win."You see how much it means to all of the athletes," he said. "I just wanted to try and be part of that if I could.
The atmosphere in all of the stadiums, when everyone's won gold medals in all of the sports, everyone's just been so happy and pumped. I'm just glad I've been able to contribute to that."
He described the victory as the biggest of his career and said had been made even more special by previous disappointments. "To win today, in the way that I did, makes those losses a little bit easier to take," he said. "It has been tough at times."
